President
The President is the chief officer of the IABC Chapter (The Association). The position is a one-year term, following a pre-term as Vice President or President Elect and will automatically succeed to Past
President following one year term as President. It is a three-year commitment in total.
Responsibilities
- exercise general supervision over affairs of the Association, and lead with integrity and ethical
conduct, ensuring that overall governance and adherence to IABC vision and integrity
- preside at all Annual and Special meetings, as well as Board meetings
- represent the Chapter in the community, and at relevant IABC meetings, and liaises with other
Chapter Presidents, Asia Pacific and International
- brief the Vice President/ President-elect on all matters
- act as the media spokesperson for the Association or delegate for another director to do so
- represent or appoint a representative of the Chapter at meetings of other organisations and
public events
- working with the Vice President prepare and execute a sponsorship strategy
- maintain a positive and beneficial relationship with existing sponsors or partners
- identify and approach new opportunities for partnerships – whether in-kind or paid
- develop, refine and maintain the sponsorship program
- develop and maintain a sponsorship profile of IABC Canberra
- identify and consider alternative models for sponsorship.

Vice President

This role is the President-elect and so has automatic succession to President in the following year,

This position offers the president-elect a year of on-the-job-training for his or her upcoming position
as chapter president. It provides an opportunity for limited management experience, as you assist the current chapter president with organisation and delegation. This role serves as a learning experience to prepare for your year as president.
Past President
The Past President is the previous year’sPresident and provides continuity to the incoming President. This is a twelve-month position.
Responsibilities

support continuity for the Chapter

After working to achieve specific goals as chapter president, you’ll have the opportunity to officially
assess and showcase the progress of the Chapter. You will also serve as an advisor to the current
chapter president and the other board members. This role will help to hone your coaching and
mentoring skills.
Secretary
The Secretary of the Board provides administration and governance support for the IABC Canberra Board. This role requires approximately 2-3 hours a month in addition to attending board meetings.
Responsibilities
- Keep a record of all appointments of office-bearers and members of the Board
- maintain a contact list for all Board Members
- prepare the agenda for the monthly meeting, collate board papers from members and distribute
to the Board
- organise the board meeting, finding a venue for face-to-face meetings, setting up an online
meeting and distributing the calendar invite
- capturing minutes during the meeting including attendance by members at the Board and any
action item. Finalise the minutes and distribute to all members
- maintain appropriate files in relation to board meetings, including complete copies of agendas,
minutes, and papers
- monitor the IABC Canberra inbox and ensure any urgent information is actioned by the relevant
board member. Clear out and file emails
- serve as Public Officer for the duration of the role and be the primary contact for any ACT Government requests or notification of changes to board membership. Forms and requirements
- complete Annual Return documentation to meet ACT Government requirements for
incorporated associations. This must be done within six months of the end of the financial year, or a fee will have to be paid. Work with Treasurer to obtain financial year summary and get this reviewed by an accountant before submitting form.

Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for managing and reporting all finances and facilitating finance audits for IABC Canberra and IABC Global. This role requires 2-3 hours per month plus attending board
meetings.
Responsibilities
- All money due to the association is collected and received, and that all payments authorised by
the Association are made
- correct books and accounts are kept showing the financial affairs of the Association, including
full details of all receipts and expenditure connected with the activities of the Association
- ensure that Association monies are managed responsibly and in the best interests of members;
- prepare monthly financial reports (in conjunction with accountant or bookkeeper if required)
- handle banking for the Association including maintaining appropriate records regarding such
matters as invoicing, payments, reimbursements
- liaise with IABC Finance to meet IABC reporting requirements
- making recommendations to the Board on budgets and associated issues
- coordinate the audit of books annually for IABC International and reporting and financialstatements for the annual general meeting.

Director Membership
The Director Membership is responsible for managing and reporting on membership, promoting membership activities and coordinating membership communication for the Board. 5-6 hours per

Director Events
The Director Events is responsible for coordinating and supporting events management for the Board. This role requires approximately 4-5 hours per month (plus additional time leading up to the
keynote event) and attendance at board meetings.

- with President and/or Vice President, liaise with corporate members and sponsors to ensure
input into the events program
- working with other Board Members to help them plan and coordinate membership events,
including:
o project management for major events
o proactively seeking speakers and topics
o coordinate or write the promotional piece and activities for each event (pre and post)
- report on profitability and value of each event lead event logistics for midweek mingles, including venue, numbers, catering, etc
- oversee project management for the annual keynote event
- manage IABC branding collateral, including banners
- oversee Eventbrite ticketing platform, including setting up events, monitoring registrationnumbers and downloading reports.

Director Professional Development
The Director Professional Development for the IABC Canberra is responsible for managing professional development activities that contribute to the GCCC professional certification program.
This role requires approximately 5-6 hours per month plus attendance at board meetings.
Responsibilities
- identify professional development needs of members and develop relevant policies and
activities to enable greater opportunities for members
- serve as a subject matter expert and advocate for Certification, the IABC Academy, and
other global professional development activities (e.g. World Conference, and Leadership
Institute), as well as local initiatives and events;
- oversee implementation and promotion of Gold Quills
- coordinate professional development workshops/ masterclasses
- central contact for members to support and facilitate access to professional skills
training through events and networking.

General Board Member
Not all board members are required to hold a director’s role. As a member of the Board, you will be expected to attend board meetings and provide additional support for around 2-3 hours a month.
Responsibilities of all board members:
- Actively contribute to discussions at board meetings providing ideas and expertise
- drive membership of the Chapter through advocating for membership in
professional networks
- provide leadership or support for one event per year
- representing the Board at IABC events and other relevant events
- support the delivery of annual keynote event (e.g. identifying speakers/sponsors,
developing promotional materials, promoting through networks, having a supporting role on
the day).
