Communicators in the bushfire crisis

19 Jan 2020

Communicators from government agencies, businesses and volunteer organisations have played an essential role throughout the bushfire crisis, ensuring the public and media have been kept up to date with relevant, timely information and providing reassurance and critical public safety messages.

We acknowledge the work of IABC members who are involved in the response in both professional and voluntary capacities.

IABC Canberra member Danielle Bevins-Sundvall from KPMG is a Public Affairs Officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and provided media management support to Operation BUSHFIRE ASSIST.

‘It was a privilege to be able to use my professional communications skills to support the response to the bushfire emergency,’ Danielle said.

‘My contribution was a tiny drop in the ocean compared to the months of tireless work of the Rural Fire Service volunteers and Fire and Rescue and Defence personnel, and full credit must go to the brave men and women working on the frontline to protect and support affected communities.’
