Congratulations to our newly certified members!

22 Nov 2020

At the IABC Canberra Board strategic planning session at the beginning of the year, we committed to holding our first Global Communication Certification Council exam in Canberra. Until fairly recently it was difficult for Asia Pacific members to sit for the Communication Management Professional (CMP) or Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP) exams as most were held at the international IABC conferences in North America. We were determined as part of our three year strategic plan to make this opportunity available to our members in Canberra.

Certification by the GCCC is an independent assessment of your communications expertise and marks important milestones in the development of your career. The CMP recently became ISO accredited, with plans for the SCMP to also be ISO accredited in the near future.

Then, well 2020! We were unsure if we could even hold an exam in person due to COVID19 restrictions, but we pushed on regardless, identifying members who could be interested in sitting, holding briefing and mentoring sessions with our three already-qualified members in Canberra and crossed our fingers we would be able to hold the exam in October as planned.

On 28 October our nervous candidates assembled at the QT Hotel in Canberra. After the three hour exam, our newly certified members emerged victorious! Huge congratulations to:

  • Sarah Toaldo, CMP
  • Amanda Dennett, SCMP ( President IABC Canberra)
  • Justine O’Brien, SCMP (Director Professional Development IABC Canberra).
Justine O’Brien SCMP, Amanda Dennett SCMP and Sarah Toaldo CMP.

We are so proud of our three new certified members and proud to have been able to offer this amazing development and recognition opportunity right here in Canberra. Here’s what the ladies had to say about the experience:

Having international certification is an achievement that demonstrates a level of competency and ongoing professional development that is recognised worldwide” – Justine O’Brien, SCMP

Being certified means to me; validity in my skills, recognition as a profession, confidence in my knowledge” – Sarah Toaldo, CMP

It is an independent recognition of the strategic communication skills and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career. I’m proud to be an SCMP and proud that I decided to make this investment in myself” – Amanda Dennett, SCMP

IABC Canberra will hold another certification exam in 2021. Interested in knowing more? Check out IABC Asia Pacific’s certification information or visit the GCCC website – and get in touch with us via
