Event wrap-up: Corporate Rebels

Since 2016, Pim and Joost have studied progressive organisations and interviewed over one hundred of the world’s best thinkers on alternative ways of working.
They joined us for an afternoon’s conversation on how to ‘shake up’ the workplace, make work more fun and unleash the potential of employees.

Emma Macdonald, journalist and associate editor at HerCanberra, welcomed a full house of potential corporate rebels.
First we listened to Pim’s presentation, eager to find out how Australian workplaces stack up against ones overseas.
As it turns out, Australians aren’t as engaged at work as we might think.
Pim shared plenty of interesting findings, including the idea that gender balance comes from more flexible workplace rules than from policy.
Unsurprisingly, communication was a big topic.
Pim and Joost encouraged us to improve organisations from the inside out by trying new ways of working.
They welcomed our questions about how we could start our own small corporate rebellions, especially in government organisations.
We discussed when to have rules and control, whether it’s good to be transparent with finances and how internal communications is different in rebellious organisations.
After such a thought-provoking session, there was lots to discuss with new connections over a drink.
