Summer comms content: President’s edition
19 Dec 2019
We asked our new president Amanda Dennett a couple of questions to find out what comms content she’s devouring this summer…
What are you reading?
Stories for Work: The Essential Guide to Business Storytelling by Gabrielle Dolan. I was lucky enough to score a free copy of this book when I attended the IABC APAC Fusion Conference in Singapore in 2017, but embarrassingly it has remained on my ‘to read’ pile of books by
the bed since then. I heard Gabrielle speak at the Fusion 2017 and her strategies for connecting with others at work by telling authentic and engaging stories really resonated with me. This year I’ve taken on responsibility for internal communication strategy at the Australian War Memorial, so I’ll be reading Stories for Work over the holidays to refresh my ideas about talking to my fellow leaders about the importance of communicating effectively with our employees.
What are you listening to?
This year I discovered The Internal Comms Podcast (there’s a theme here, isn’t there?) and have been listening to it regularly on my commute from Yass to Canberra for work. It is an interview-based podcast, hosted by Katie Macaulay, on topics ranging from internal communications leadership to social purpose for organisations. The podcast is produced by UK-based agency AB and there are two seasons available for binge listening.
