Set yourself apart – become a certified Communication Management Professional

Widely used in other professions, a professional certification tells peers, colleagues and clients that they are working with an experienced and competent communicator. And, certification shows the world that you are committed to keeping your skills and knowledge up to date. It’s a way to challenge yourself and prove your worth as a communications professional!

The Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) certification program is based on the Global Standard for communication professionals set out by IABC. Earning professional communication certification from the GCCC demonstrates that you have a deep level of professional communication knowledge and expertise in six key areas: ethics, strategy, analysis, context, engagement, and consistency.

The Certified Communications Professional (CMP) is for mid to senior level professionals with a minimum of 6-8 experience in the field.

The Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP) certification, candidates must have 11 years of experience and 20 hours of training AND must provide a letter of recommendation from mentees or an organisation for which the candidate has done pro bono work addressing senior level contributions to communications.

IABC Canberra hosted certification exams in 2022 for its third year. The October 2022 exam will offer the opportunity to take either the CMP or the SCMP exam. The IABC Canberra chapter has a number of members who are certified through the GCCC. Here’s what last year’s successfully certified members had to say about the experience:
